Facepalm of the Day: Morality and Video Game Patents

Photobucket

This is a story that will affect all future video games on all platforms. I'm going to sound a but unprofessional with this post but in the case of this story, I can say that it's safe to believe, that most of you will agree with me.

Elliot McGucken, some average joe from goodness knows where, is trying to patent the idea of "Moral Choices" in video games. -Pause- What the hell?! (-Yes I wanted to use a stronger word then "hell") How do you patent a GAME DESIGN AND STORY CONCEPT?! That's like saying, "I'm going to patent the idea of a "super hero" or I'm going to patent the concept of a "damsel in distress". I really hope that the United States patent office throws his request out of the window! The next "tid bit" is the example of something his "patent" covers

"PLAYER -> Serve Ideal and speak truth to power? -> YES -> Spiritual victory -> Player is killed but is resurrected and the 45 revolver glows gold -> Apotheosis & showdown: Exalted consequences and ideals are rendered real."

...Really now?! This guy is a "patent troll"! he's hoping that his patent goes through so that when some game developer decides to make a game with moral choices (which is like EVERY Teen and Mature rated game on the market), he gains some profit by suing the developer. This is very shameful and I hope to have more o this story as the days go by.
